Biography

Hal Needham is the program manager of SCIPP at Louisiana State University. Much of Needham's research focuses on analyzing storm surge vulnerability of coastal locations. He is the project manager for SURGEDAT, a storm surge information center that contains a global storm surge database, as well as web tools that enable users to estimate their vulnerability to coastal flooding. Needham is currently researching how various tropical cyclone characteristics generate storm surge, as well as statistical methods to estimate coastal vulnerability to surges. He has worked extensively in the SCIPP region conducting climate needs assessment surveys, and is also forging international partnerships to foster collaborative research.
